Right on cue, the “empathy” came back the second Trump made a move. I remember thinking how everyone would catch on now because it was just so obvious and predictable. I’ll never forget that.
I have to say that I always felt the same way about the “pro-Palestine” crowd. It was anti-Israel more than it was pro anything or anyone. The refusal to confront how Hamas harms Palestinians was one of the main tells that their motive is more about themselves and their own feelings/identities than Palestinians. They refuse to learn much about them as they actually are.
It is bigger than that in my opinion. I think it is war on Western Culture. On civilization as we know it. When even Canada is trying to weaken the US on behalf of China there is a real problem in the world.
The title is bang on: “Iran Exposed the Pro-Palestine Movement.” Iran presented an almost perfect test of the movement’s professed concern for oppression, and the contrast is devastating. Whatever combination of ideology, selective outrage, and political allegiance ultimately explains it, the response to Iranians risking their lives against a brutal theocratic regime revealed something that the rhetoric of universal compassion cannot easily explain away. This is an important piece, and it asks exactly the question that needs asking.
